Our brick-and-mortar store Underwater Explorers based on Portland, Dorset is staffed 7 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays. As it's an active store visited by divers from around the country and world regularly, if we can't make it to the phone for any reason please leave a message and we'll get back to you asap.

Any queries are usually answered the very same day and at most within 24 hours.

Why Portland?

We’re located on the Isle of Portland (in Dorset) because Portland has been one of the most popular scuba diving locations in the United Kingdom even before we set up operations here back in the year 2000.

On one side, we’re minutes away from the sheltered waters of Portland Marina and Harbour, while on the other, it’s just a brief walk to reach our famous scuba diving destination Chesil Cove and start of the 16-mile-long Chesil Beach.

Portland’s location makes it ideal for scuba diving, freediving, snorkelling and other surface water sports activities.

Check out how many wrecks we have around here by clicking on Scimitar Diving's Wreck & Dive Sites chart!

Alongside dive clubs, many instructors and dive schools travel here to train and offer scuba diving certification ranging from open water diver to mixed-gas tech diving or rebreather diving levels.

Whether you’re doing a boat dive from Portland Marina or Castletown or a shore dive at Chesil Cove, Portland is well known for offering many possibilities: Reef diving to wreck diving and night diving, underwater photography or underwater videography. Anything other than cave diving is possible here.

Likely being the best-stocked diving shop in the UK, at Underwater Explorers we offer in-store scuba diving equipment advice and sales, as well as gas fills, to locals and visitors (read About Us).

But... If you’re googling “scuba diving shop near me” like some, look no further, there's DirDirect online.

Here at DirDirect, we list our cutting-edge equipment for worldwide delivery and we’ve got you covered whatever your level of diving: We’re your local dive store wherever you are in the world.

All that with over 20 years of experience especially in technical diving, from training to equipment, advice and sales.

Combining the iconic design of the original D-Series regulators with the latest advances in breathing performance technology, Scubapro engineers have created Scubapro MK25 EVO D420 Regulator, a 21st-century regulator in terms of quality, reliability, performance and style.

The Scubapro D420 second stage can deliver abundant airflow for the best
breathing performance with a natural smoothness
comparable to what you might experience breathing
 on the surface.

Teamed with the venerable MK25 EVO balanced piston first stage, this regulator system is purpose-designed for today’s avid divers and Scubapro brand enthusiasts everywhere.

Scubapro MK25 EVO D420 Regulator includes

  • Scubapro D420 second stage
  • Scubapro MK25 EVO first stage
  • Scubapro High-flow regulator hose

Scubapro D420 Second Stage features

The Scubapro D420 Second Stage Regulator combines the original D-Series regulators’ classic design with the latest breathing performance technology advances. Scubapro engineers have
created a 21st-century smooth natural breathing
 regulator.

D420 can deliver abundant airflow for the best
breathing performance with a natural smoothness
comparable to what you might experience breathing
 on the surface.

The Scubapro D420 second stage, with its chrome-plated marine-grade brass body, features a brand new balanced
valve inside a housing supported by a full metal
 structure.

The Progressive Flow Control Valve can deliver abundant airflow for the best
breathing performance with a natural smoothness
comparable to what you might experience breathing
 on the surface.

The uniquely shaped fibreglass-reinforced nylon casing is ultra-durable and allows
the LP hose to be connected on either the right or
left side for maximum rigging flexibility.

A new dive/pre-dive system includes a switch on the top of the casing with a thumb tab to adjust the airflow direction right out of the valve.

The highly efficient purge button is a technical jewel based on a new concept that gives the D420 its unique face. The Scubapro D420 Second Stage Regulator’s long list of features, including nitrox compatibility of up to 40%, is sure to enhance any diver’s underwater experience.

  • Nitrox compatible to 40%
  • Weight (without mouthpiece) 216g
  • Airflow at 200bar: 1800 l/min - 64 SCFM

Scubapro MK25 EVO First Stage features

Scubapro MK25 EVO First Stage Regulator lets you enjoy an ultra-fast breathing response, instant air delivery on demand, great sensitivity and extra-high airflow - regardless of the water’s cold.

Air-balanced flow-through piston design provides constant and effortless airflow unaffected by depth, tank pressure, or breathing rate.

MK25 EVO is cold water rated

Patented XTIS (Extended Thermal Insulating System) fully insulates the inner mechanism from the environment, improving cold-water resistance by 30% and delaying ice formation in extreme cold-water conditions without compromising breathing performance.

Anti-freeze protection radically increases breathing reliability when diving in extreme water temperatures.

Scubapro MK25 EVO First Stage Regulator is CE certified according to the latest EN250A European Standards for all diving conditions, including extreme cold water.

Excellent hose routing

Two high-pressure and five high-flow low-pressure ports on a swivel turret maximise hose routing options.

External intermediate pressure adjustment enables technicians to fine-tune performance quickly and easily.

  • Nitrox compatible to 40%
  • 300bar DIN connection
  • Weight: 572g
  • Airflow at 2900psi (l/min/SCFM): >8500/301
  • Intermediate pressure 9-9.8bar
  • 2 High Pressure Ports
  • 5 Low Pressure Ports
  • Chrome-plated brass

DIN or A-clamp first stage?

Most of our divers prefer DIN fitting on the 1st stage regulator. A DIN regulator has a threaded post which screws into the inside of a DIN tank valve and has no additional metal or braces that run behind the valve. This, together with the position of its o-ring, creates a more secure seal on the tank.

YOKE (or A-Clamp) 1st stages have an oblong metal brace that completely encircles the tank valve when in place and is screwed down on the tank valve when the yoke screw is tightened.

Both regulators seal to the scuba tank through an o-ring where the o-ring on a Yoke valve is in the tank valve itself as opposed to DIN regulators with their own o-ring.

DIN fittings are commonly accepted as more secure, but Yoke valves are common throughout North America and recreational tourist destinations. A DIN regulator can be adapted to Yoke valves by using an A-clamp adapter for travel.
