XDeep NX Zen Standard Wing System

The XDeep NX Zen is a revolutionary single-tank wing system that redefines the relationship between a diver and their equipment. By "deconstructing" the traditional backplate and harness, XDeep has created a system that offers unparalleled comfort, stability, and trim for sport and technical divers alike.

Why Choose the XDeep NX Zen Wing System?

Unlike traditional jacket-style BCDs or standard backplate-and-wing setups, the NX Zen features advanced ergonomic geometry. This system provides 19kg (42 lbs) of lift in a narrow, streamlined profile that reduces drag and improves gas consumption.

Key Features and Performance Benefits:

  • Innovative 19kg NX Wing: Offers high lift in a compact frame. The narrow design keeps the wing tucked behind the cylinder, eliminating the "wrap-around" effect and reducing underwater resistance.
  • Ergonomic NX Series Backplate: The enlarged upper section and flared lower base shift the centre of gravity, relieving pressure on the lumbar spine and distributing weight across the body's natural stable points.
  • Precision Trim & Buoyancy: The centered inflator position prevents air from becoming trapped on one side, allowing for effortless buoyancy adjustments and perfect horizontal trim.
  • 3D Mesh Backplate Pad: A soft, non-compressive pad provides extra comfort and grip without adding positive buoyancy—meaning you don't need extra lead to compensate.
  • V-Shaped Crotch Strap: The dual-attachment design provides superior stability when scootering or walking on deck, preventing the rig from sliding side to side.

Advanced Harness Engineering

The NX Zen features a DIR-style "continuous loop" harness that behaves like a custom-fit system once adjusted to your body and what you are wearing for the dive.

  • Easy Donning and Doffing: When unfastened, the shoulder straps are 20% longer than traditional harnesses, making it easy to slip on even when wearing thick drysuits.
  • Automatic Tensioning: Simply tighten the waist buckle to pull the shoulder straps down and inward, instantly creating a secure, locked-in fit.
  • Cargo D-Rings: Strategically placed on the V-shaped crotch strap, these rings provide easier access to clipped-off gear than traditional centre-mounted rings. Instead of a single centre ring, these two Cargo D-Rings provide much easier access to your clipped-off gear, making your diving tasks more efficient and safer in any environment.

Product FAQs

How much does the XDeep NX Zen weigh for travel?
The specs of the Zen and Deluxe are identical. Full set weight is cited as 3.0 Kg. The dry weight of the BC (wing) without the harness is 1.1 Kg. Zen wings have 19 Kg. lift capacity.
What are the differences between the XDeep NX Zen and Zen Deluxe?
The backplate and wing itself are identical. The primary difference is that the standard XDeep NX Zen has a one-piece (continuous-loop) DIR-style webbing harness without side break points or buckles. You adjust it to fit your body and your diving suit, and can fine-tune it if anything changes, such as switching from a drysuit to a wetsuit. The Zen Deluxe has buckles on both sides and does not utilise a one-piece harness webbing. While the standard harness is adjusted with its tri-glides, the Deluxe harness is adjusted with the two ITW Nexus QR Buckles, which provide a quick-release option. In addition, the Deluxe includes shoulder strap padding out of the box, while it's optional with the Standard wing system. It's important to note that if you ever want to switch from the Deluxe version to a standard harness, you can do so.
Is the XDeep NX Zen DIR?
Yes, even though the geometry of the backplate and harness may look different from the standard DIR systems we've become accustomed to over the years, the system is very much DIR. As mentioned, it has a one-piece, continuous-loop harness webbing with no break points or buckles (no failure point), which aligns with DIR philosophy. The quick-release buckles on both sides of the Deluxe system do not. If you're looking for a more traditional DIR-style wing system with a harness without break points, you may also want to check out the equally popular XDeep Zeos Single Tank Wing System.
Is the waist harness of the NX Zen at a higher level than traditional harness and backplates?
If you’re moving from a jacket-style BCD or a standard harness, the first thing you’ll notice about the XDeep NX Zen is that the waist strap sits significantly higher than you're used to. This isn't a design flaw—it’s a deliberate "deconstruction" of traditional backplate geometry. By shifting the waist strap toward your natural waist rather than your hips, XDeep has moved the system’s centre of gravity. The backplate’s enlarged upper section and flared lower base work together to protect the lumbar spine (weight is transferred away from the lower back) and to increase stability: The load is distributed across the more stable regions of the torso, making the kit feel lighter and more "connected" to your body.

This unique geometry is engineered to eliminate the "tank wobble" common in traditional rigs. Because the plate sits higher and hugs the back’s natural curves, the cylinder is locked into place, preventing side-to-side shifting during the dive. The height is also functional for the harness's hardware, such as the V-Shaped Crotch Strap: This specific waist height ensures the crotch strap maintains the perfect tensioning angle. When you tighten the waist buckle, the geometry pulls the shoulder straps down and inward simultaneously, creating a secure, custom fit without the need for complex chest straps.
Is the XDeep Zen "Wing" suitable for twinset diving?
The short answer is no. While the NX Zen backplate and harness are robust enough to handle the transition to doubles, the Zen wing (bladder) itself is purpose-built exclusively for single-tank diving. The Zen wing is "narrow-crafted" for a single cylinder. Even though it offers 38 lbs (17 kg) of lift—nearly identical to the 40 lbs standard for many twinset wings—the shape is the limiting factor. Air Trapping: A single-tank wing is too narrow in the middle and too narrow overall for two cylinders. If forced onto a twinset, air would become trapped in "dead zones." Potential Damage: Forcing a single-tank bladder between or under twin cylinders can put undue stress on the fabric and seams, leading to punctures or catastrophic failure.

The good news is that you don't need to buy a whole new system if you decide to go "tech." Because XDeep uses the industry-standard 11-inch (27.9 cm) bolt spacing, the backplate is highly modular. To transition to twinsets, you would only need to swap the bladder for a purpose-made twinset wing. A dedicated doubles wing offers a wider "doughnut" centre, designed to provide lift around the twin cylinders. Maximum circulation ensures air moves freely for precise trim and easy dumping. Properly positioned lift on the surface keeps you upright and high out of the water while wearing heavy doubles.
