        Product FAQs

Is the Shearwater Peregrine good for beginner divers?
Yes. The Shearwater Peregrine is one of the best dive computers for beginner and recreational divers because it has a large colour screen, simple two-button navigation, clear dive mode options, and Shearwater’s proven decompression algorithm. It includes 3-Gas Nitrox mode, supporting accelerated decompression if required.
Is the Shearwater Peregrine suitable for technical diving?
Yes, although the Shearwater Peregrine is designed primarily for recreational diving, it supports technical and decompression diving.

It includes a 3-Gas Nitrox mode up to 100% oxygen, making it suitable for accelerated decompression profiles. It also uses the industry-standard Bühlmann ZHL-16C algorithm with Gradient Factors, the same core decompression model found in higher-end Shearwater computers such as the Shearwater Perdix 2.

No Trimix support for helium-based diving
        No CCR closed-circuit rebreather modes

For advanced technical diving, the Peregrine can even be used as a reliable backup computer in Gauge Mode, rather than as a primary device.
Does the Shearwater Peregrine have Air Integration (AI)?
The standard Shearwater Peregrine does not have air integration and cannot connect to a transmitter. It was designed to provide a premium display and interface at a more accessible price point by omitting the internal hardware required for wireless tank pressure monitoring. For many divers, this simplicity is a selling point, as it pairs perfectly with a traditional analogue submersible pressure gauge (SPG).

If wireless air integration via a transmitter on your first stage is a "must-have" for you, go for the Shearwater Peregrine TX.

This upgraded version maintains the same user-friendly form factor while adding the ability to pair with the Swift Transmitter and a digital compass, bridging the gap between the entry-level Peregrine and the advanced Perdix series.
Does the Shearwater Peregrine have colour options?
Yes. The standard Shearwater Peregrine is available alongside the Shearwater Peregrine Adventures Edition Light and the Adventures Edition Dark. The Peregrine TX is currently available in the standard colour only.
How do I charge the Peregrine and how long does the battery last?
The Peregrine features an internal, rechargeable lithium-ion battery that is charged wirelessly.

Every unit comes with a USB-C wireless charging pad; you simply set the computer on the pad, and it begins charging. This design eliminates the need to open the casing to change batteries, significantly reducing the risk of O-ring failure or accidental flooding.

On a full charge, you can expect approximately 30 hours of dive time at medium screen brightness. Because it uses a lithium-ion cell, the battery is designed to last for several years of regular use before needing service. If the battery capacity eventually declines, it can be replaced by an authorised Shearwater service centre to ensure the unit remains pressure-sealed and calibrated.
What is the difference between the Peregrine and the Perdix 2?
The main difference between the Peregrine and Perdix 2 lies in their intended diving environments and hardware features. The Perdix 2 is a full-featured technical computer that supports Trimix, CCR, and Air Integration as standard features. It also utilises a user-replaceable AA battery (allowing you to swap power sources in remote locations) and features a more rugged titanium bezel for extreme durability.

In contrast, the Peregrine is streamlined for the recreational diver. It is thinner, lighter, and more affordable while using the same stunning 2.2" colour LCD screen. If you only plan to dive on Air or Nitrox and don't mind charging your device via wireless USB, the Peregrine offers the elite Shearwater experience at nearly half the cost of a Perdix 2.

You can read our full review of Peregrine or Perdix 2 - Which Should I get to find out which is better for you.
I dive air and/or nitrox on open circuit - Peregrine or Perdix 2?
As explained in the difference between the two units, if you're only diving air and nitrox, you will not be using Helium (trimix) for your diving, will not be switching to a rebreather, the Peregrine or Peregrine TX with Swift transmitter would be a reliable, sound investment that covers your diving for years to come.
