Halcyon Eclipse Single Tank Wing System

The Halcyon Eclipse Single Tank Wing System is a premium recreational single-tank BC. It arrives fully set up and features a versatile one-size-fits-all design.

Furthermore, this clutter-free system easily adjusts to suit divers of any size. It seamlessly adapts to any type of diving and to any suit thickness you wear.

Consequently, the system is ideal for men, women, and young divers alike. You can also easily move the hardware to a twinset wing in the future.

Halcyon Eclipse System Includes:

  • Halcyon Eclipse Wing with a 22" Inflator hose
  • Halcyon Aluminium or Stainless Steel Backplate
  • Halcyon Secure Harness and hardware
  • Halcyon Single Tank Adapter and Traverse Bag

Halcyon Eclipse Wing

The Halcyon Eclipse Wing features a narrow, doughnut-shaped, back-mounted design. This unique structure allows divers to enjoy perfect horizontal trim underwater. As a result, it minimises your in-water effort and maximises streamlining.

Additionally, a circular zipper around the inside allows for easy inspection of the interior bladder. A quick drainage system at the bottom removes water rapidly to minimise excess weight.

  • Lifetime warranty on inner bladder RF-welded seams.
  • Available in three lift capacities: 20lbs, 30lbs, and 40lbs.
  • 1680-denier ballistic nylon outer shell and 400-denier Nylon inner bladder.

Which wing size?

The amount of lift you require depends entirely on your kit configuration. For comparison, the Eclipse 30 measures 67cm x 46cm, while the Eclipse 40 measures 70cm x 50cm.

Therefore, the 30lbs wing works best for a lighter single 12L steel cylinder. Conversely, the 40lbs wing is ideal for a heavier 15L cylinder or extra emergency lift.

Halcyon Backplate and Harness

The Halcyon Secure Harness provides infinite adjustability for a perfect fit. Whether you dive wet or dry, this stable system eliminates tank roll and drift.

Furthermore, the refined backplate features unique bends that create an ergonomic curve. This design increases your comfort significantly. Pre-bent shoulder D-rings facilitate quick, one-handed storage of accessories like backup lights.

  • High-grade polished 304 stainless steel or hard-coat aluminium.
  • Bare backplate weight: Steel is 2.22kg, while Aluminium is 0.77kg.
  • Utility holes allow easy mating with the optional MC Storage Pak.

Which backplate to use?

Generally, travelling or wetsuit divers prefer the lighter aluminium backplate. Conversely, drysuit divers often choose a stainless steel backplate. The additional steel weight helpfully takes bulk off your waist.

Halcyon Single Tank Adapter

The stainless steel Halcyon Single Tank Adapter securely attaches your backplate to a single cylinder. Premium cam bands feature stainless steel buckles and Topogrip Pads to prevent sliding.

Moreover, the deep plate accommodates an optional 6lbs central weight. You can easily remove this extra weight when you do not require it.

Optional Halcyon ACB Weight Pockets

The integrated Halcyon ACB Weight Pockets offer an ideal solution for quick-release weight. Each pocket holds up to 5lbs (2.3kg).

Because of its vertical orientation, this system takes up less space on your waist. Finally, a simple tri-glide connection secures the Active Control Ballast pockets perfectly.

What is the difference between wing and BCD?

The low drag design of the wing spreads the air in a balanced way on the back of the diver, keeping the wing part of the compensator out of the way and offering unprecedented streamlining during a dive.

There are no air-inflated side panels or pockets as on traditional 'jacket type' BC's, avoiding a "legs down" position often caused by air to the side and front of the diver.

There are no restrictions on the diver's chest - making it extremely comfortable, with no chest compression, and also allowing one size to fit all with no hassle.

The advantages of a wing system over a "jacket type" BC are numerous. The Halcyon Eclipse Wing System depends on a one-piece webbing harness looped through a sturdy aluminium or stainless steel backplate that should last many lifetimes.

Once donned, a webbing crotch strap can be utilised to keep the whole system in place with minimum movement.

The continuous loop harness prevents the frustrating lack of control found with typical buoyancy compensators. Once adjusted to the size and fit of the suit, there is nothing that can break or come loose.

Product FAQs

What lift capacity should I choose for the Eclipse wing?
The Halcyon Eclipse is a doughnut-shaped ecliptic wing available in three lift capacities, and your choice depends heavily on your exposure suit and tank material:

20 lb (9 kg): Ideal for lightweight travel, warm-water diving with thin wetsuits, smaller cylinders up to 12L, and petite or younger divers. More of an "Alpinist" approach for more experienced minimalist divers.

30 lb (14 kg): The most popular and versatile size. It provides excellent buoyancy and trim for standard aluminium or steel tanks (i.e. 12L cylinders) across both warm and temperate waters.

40 lb (18 kg): Best suited for cold-water diving with heavy undergarments/drysuits and large-diameter, heavy steel cylinders and/or pony bottles are used (covering 12, 15 & 18L volumes), and preferable where extra surface lift is required.
Can I use the Eclipse wing for twinsets?
No. The Eclipse is strictly engineered with a narrow, streamlined profile specifically meant to wrap perfectly around a single cylinder.

If you try to use it with double tanks, the tanks will pinch the bladder, preventing air from flowing freely through the wing (which can cause dangerous gas trapping or a "taco" effect). For double tanks, you should look at Halcyon's Evolve or Legend series.
Should I choose a Stainless Steel or Aluminium backplate?
Your choice depends on your diving environment and travel habits:

Stainless Steel: Ideal if you dive in cold water or use a thick wetsuit/drysuit. The weight of the plate inherently unloads weight from your hips/weight belt and helps you maintain a streamlined trim.

Aluminium or Carbon Fibre: Perfect for travelling divers, or those diving primarily in warm water with thin wetsuits who do not require much negative ballast.

Don't forget, you can always swap between backplates in the future using the same wing and harness setup.
What makes the Eclipse bladder design "rugged"?
The Eclipse features a heavy-duty "bag-in-a-bag" design built to withstand harsh environments:

The outer shell is made of 1000-denier Cordura, offering extreme resistance to abrasions, punctures, and tears from rocks, wrecks, or reefs.

The inner bladder (which actually holds the air) is made of a puncture-resistant, urethane-coated 400-denier nylon.

It features RF-welded seams (backed by a lifetime warranty from Halcyon) and a heavy-duty zipper on the outer shell for easy access for maintenance.
What's the difference between the Halcyon Eclipse and Era wings?
The Halcyon Eclipse and the newer Halcyon Era are both premium, doughnut-shaped backplate-and-wing systems designed specifically for single-tank diving. However, while the Eclipse is Halcyon’s time-tested, minimalistic classic, the Era represents a next-generation redesign packed with built-in convenience and performance features.

The core differences break down into five key areas:

1. Shape and Bladder Geometry
Eclipse: Features Halcyon’s traditional long, narrow, uniform doughnut profile. It provides highly stable and predictable buoyancy but requires you to manage air placement across the whole length of the wing.

Era: Features a completely redesigned outer shell and bladder geometry. The shape is engineered to push air more efficiently toward the lower part of the wing. This helps lift your hips and lower body, making it significantly easier to achieve a perfect, effortless horizontal trim.

2. Built-in Trim Weight Pockets ("Opti-Weight")
Eclipse: Has a slick, bare outer shell. If you want to add trim weights to your tank or upper body, you have to buy separate weight pockets that slide onto your cam bands or harness.

Era: Features four zippered "Opti-Weight" pockets built directly into the wing's outer shell. Each pocket holds up to 1 kg (2.2 lbs), allowing you to micro-adjust your balance and trim without adding bulk to your tank straps.

3. Hose Routing and Openings
Eclipse: Uses a traditional setup where your regulator hoses route over and around the wing.

Era: Borrows the "Smart Hose Routing" concept from Halcyon’s double-tank systems (the Legend). It features dual hose openings built into the wing itself, allowing your inflator hose and pressure gauge (SPG) hose to pass through cleanly. This keeps your chest area uncluttered and highly streamlined.

4. Inflator Elbow Profile
Eclipse: Uses a standard corrugated hose elbow sticking out near the top of the wing.

Era: Features a new, ultra-low-profile elbow that sits much tighter against the scuba cylinder. This creates noticeably more headroom so your first stage regulator or tank valve doesn't bump the back of your head, while also reducing stress on the hose fitting.

Summary: Which one is right for you?

Choose the Eclipse if you want the classic, minimalist, ultra-clean "DIR" (Doing It Right) setup with no extra frills, or if you specifically want a tiny 20 lb wing for warm-water travel. Choose the Era if you want a premium, modern upgrade that offers easier horizontal trim, integrated trim pockets, cleaner hose management, and more head clearance right out of the box.
