The APEKS DST First Stage: High-Performance & Versatile
The APEKS DST first stage regulator is a versatile, high-performance option for divers of all levels and is popular among technical and sidemount divers.
It’s based on the renowned DS4 first stage, including all its outstanding features, but adds a number of features from a swivel turret for improved hose routing, a second HP port on the opposite side of the body, and even the option to add a 5th medium pressure port.
The standard medium-pressure ports are all mounted on a rotating turret, allowing optimal hose routing for all configurations, whether diving a single tank, twinset, or using stage bottles. The 5th MP option makes it ideal for sidemount diving.
The swivel turret, 2 HP ports, and up to 5 MP ports make the Apeks DST a very versatile regulator that can be used for various diving applications.
The Apeks DST first stage, like the Apeks DS4, features an over-balanced design, which means that the intermediate pressure increases more than the ambient pressure as a diver descends, which results in a smoother breathing experience at depth.
As a regulator that uses a diaphragm to control the gas flow instead of a piston, it is considered more durable and more reliable in cold water.
The DST 1st stage also has an environmentally sealed dry chamber preventing water from coming into contact with the first stage spring to prevent freezing.
In summary, similar to its sibling, the Apeks DS4, the DST is a reliable workhorse with many additional features at a great price point.
Being a well-respected regulator in the technical and sidemount diving world and often a first-choice regulator for stage bottles and sidemount, the DST is ideal for twinsets and single tank configurations.
