Our brick-and-mortar store Underwater Explorers based on Portland, Dorset is staffed 7 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays. As it's an active store visited by divers from around the country and world regularly, if we can't make it to the phone for any reason please leave a message and we'll get back to you asap.

Any queries are usually answered the very same day and at most within 24 hours.

Why Portland?

We’re located on the Isle of Portland (in Dorset) because Portland has been one of the most popular scuba diving locations in the United Kingdom even before we set up operations here back in the year 2000.

On one side, we’re minutes away from the sheltered waters of Portland Marina and Harbour, while on the other, it’s just a brief walk to reach our famous scuba diving destination Chesil Cove and start of the 16-mile-long Chesil Beach.

Portland’s location makes it ideal for scuba diving, freediving, snorkelling and other surface water sports activities.

Check out how many wrecks we have around here by clicking on Scimitar Diving's Wreck & Dive Sites chart!

Alongside dive clubs, many instructors and dive schools travel here to train and offer scuba diving certification ranging from open water diver to mixed-gas tech diving or rebreather diving levels.

Whether you’re doing a boat dive from Portland Marina or Castletown or a shore dive at Chesil Cove, Portland is well known for offering many possibilities: Reef diving to wreck diving and night diving, underwater photography or underwater videography. Anything other than cave diving is possible here.

Likely being the best-stocked diving shop in the UK, at Underwater Explorers we offer in-store scuba diving equipment advice and sales, as well as gas fills, to locals and visitors (read About Us).

But... If you’re googling “scuba diving shop near me” like some, look no further, there's DirDirect online.

Here at DirDirect, we list our cutting-edge equipment for worldwide delivery and we’ve got you covered whatever your level of diving: We’re your local dive store wherever you are in the world.

All that with over 20 years of experience especially in technical diving, from training to equipment, advice and sales.

The Tusa Paragon Mask offers Tusa’s Reinforced TRI-MIX frame, Freedom Technology with Fit II, and the UV 420 Lens Treatment with AR and CrystalView Optical Glass which helps you dive with eye protection and ultimate clarity.

Give your eyes greater protection with Tusa Paragon Mask

UV light and other forms of high-energy light come not just from sunny skies. They also come at us from cloudy or rainy skies and even in reflected light.

Short-term exposure to UV rays can cause photokeratitis, which is eye sunburn. Over a long period, it can lead to cataracts.

The light we can see is made up part of high-energy visible light (HEV light), which is known to potentially cause Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) as we age.

UV+420cut™ technology is used to make clear lenses that cut HEV light in the 400–420 nm part of the spectrum, in addition to blocking all UV wavelengths. This means it provides greater protection against the types of light that can damage the eyes.

80–90% of the UV rays get through on days with light clouds vs. clear days. That number is around 60% on cloudy days and 30% on rainy days.

    Freedom Technology with Fit II

Freedom Technology is a set of technologies to enhance fit and performance exclusive to Tusa. Freedom model dive masks feature a dimpled skirt surface with varied silicone thicknesses and stability ridges and a proprietary low-friction skirt surface on the fitting line. The Fit II technology adds strength and rigidness to the skirt for use in tough environments.

    TRI-MIX Frame

Three (3) distinct layers combined to produce one superior frame structure. Polyurethane (PuRiMaX) material bumper protection and a cross-beam metal frame structure combined with the superior toughness of the polycarbonate frame bolted together to create a seriously tough mask.

    UV 420 Lens Treatment

UV 420 Lens Treatment protects against harmful high-energy visible (HEV) light and its potential to damage the Retina. HEV light is not just present on sunny days but overcast days as well. Therefore, protecting your eyes against UV and HEV light in all weather conditions is extremely important when diving.

Angle Strap Adjustor with Side Hold

The Skirt Mounted Five (5) Angle Strap Adjustor allows for a five-position micro-adjustment on the mask’s left and right sides. This enables vertical (up/down) and horizontal (left/right) pressure on the face to be delicately adjusted for the optimum fit.

    3D Tusa Mask Strap

Tusa’s patented 3D Strap is a true three-dimensional design that snugly fits against the head’s natural curvature. Unlike standard flat mask straps, the 3D strap offers unprecedented comfort and fit.

    Anti-Reflective Lens

Tusa’s Anti-Reflective (A/R) Lens Treatment decreases internal and external reflected light. This reduction increases light transmission to 95%, resulting in significantly enhanced colour, clarity, contrast, and overall underwater vision.

    CrystalView Optical Glass

CrystalView optical glass lenses provide superior clarity, colour, and light transmission over standard glass lenses used by the competition. Due to impurities and reflectivity, up to 15% of available light can be lost with a standard glass lens. Tusa’s CrystalView lenses transmit up to 95% of available light to the diver for clear, crisp vision.
