Why Portland?

We’re located on the Isle of Portland (in Dorset) because Portland has been one of the most popular scuba diving locations in the United Kingdom even before we set up operations here back in the year 2000.

On one side, we’re minutes away from the sheltered waters of Portland Marina and Harbour, while on the other, it’s just a brief walk to reach our famous scuba diving destination Chesil Cove and start of the 16-mile-long Chesil Beach.

Portland’s location makes it ideal for scuba diving, freediving, snorkelling and other surface water sports activities.

Check out how many wrecks we have around here by clicking on Scimitar Diving's Wreck & Dive Sites chart!

Alongside dive clubs, many instructors and dive schools travel here to train and offer scuba diving certification ranging from open water diver to mixed-gas tech diving or rebreather diving levels.

Whether you’re doing a boat dive from Portland Marina or Castletown or a shore dive at Chesil Cove, Portland is well known for offering many possibilities: Reef diving to wreck diving and night diving, underwater photography or underwater videography. Anything other than cave diving is possible here.

Likely being the best-stocked diving shop in the UK, at Underwater Explorers we offer in-store scuba diving equipment advice and sales, as well as gas fills, to locals and visitors (read About Us).

But... If you’re googling “scuba diving shop near me” like some, look no further, there's DirDirect online.

Here at DirDirect, we list our cutting-edge equipment for worldwide delivery and we’ve got you covered whatever your level of diving: We’re your local dive store wherever you are in the world.

All that with over 20 years of experience especially in technical diving, from training to equipment, advice and sales.

An upgrade to the popular G260 technical diving system, the Scubapro MK25 EVO G260 Carbon Black Tech with R105 Octopus delivers superior durability with a carbon fiber cover and Black Tech finish.

The balanced piston MK25 EVO Black Tech first stage offers excellent resistance to freezing, superb inhalation sensitivity and instant delivery of air on demand.

The G260 Carbon Black Tech second stage, with its large diaphragm, internal metal components and high-flow exhaust valve for excellent breathing sensitivity and resistance to freezing, ratchets up its ruggedness with the addition of a carbon fiber front cover.

Lightweight and extremely durable, carbon fiber can resist substantial shocks without damage. The first and second stages feature a Black Tech scratch-resistant metal parts coating that protects against salt water and corrosion.

The Scubapro R105 Octopus offers dependable breathing performance in a classic downstream design with a dive/pre-dive VIVA switch and reversible hose attachment.

The Scubapro MK25 EVO G260 Carbon Black Tech with R105 Octopus regulator set also included is a zippered fabric bag with specially fitted padding to protect the regulator during storage and transport.

Scubapro MK25 EVO G260 Carbon Black Tech Regulator features

  • Lightweight and extremely durable, carbon fiber can resist substantial shocks without damage.
  • The first and second stages feature a Black Tech scratch-resistant coating on metal parts that protects against salt water and corrosion.
  • Air balanced second stage valve smoothes out the inhalation effort at varying depths and supply pressures.
  • A diver-adjustable inhalation effort knob fine-tunes air delivery to suit changing depths, water conditions and personal tastes, and a Venturi-Initiated Vacuum Assist (VIVA) dive/pre-dive switch prevents free flows in cold water or when used as an octopus.
  • High-flow exhaust valve reduces exhalation for better overall breathing comfort, and the reversible hose attachment allows you to adjust hose routing for tech diving configurations easily.
  • The super-flow hose features an oversized bore that allows more air flow on each inhalation.
  • Air balanced flow-through piston provides constant and effortless airflow unaffected by depth, tank pressure, or breathing rate.
  • Patented XTIS (Extended Thermal Insulating System) insulates the inner mechanism from the environment, improving cold-water resistance and delaying ice formation in extreme cold-water conditions without compromising breathing performance.
  • Two opposing high pressure ports allow the first stage to be positioned either up or down.
  • Four high-flow and one axial super high-flow low pressure ports on a swivel turret maximise hose routing options.

MK25 EVO Carbon Black First Stage features

  • Air-balanced flow-through piston in a nickel-plated brass body coated with DLC process provides constant and effortless airflow unaffected by depth, tank pressure, or breathing rate
  • Patented XTIS (Extended Thermal Insulating System) thermally insulates the inner mechanism from the environment, improving cold-water resistance by 30% and delaying ice formation in extreme cold-water conditions without compromising breathing performance. Key insulation system components are visible in blue

  • Spring insulating coating, body insulating bushing, anti-freeze cap, and bigger body and cap thread all work in concert with the XTIS to improve cold-water performance

  • Anti-freeze protection radically increases breathing reliability when diving in the most extreme water temperatures

  • Two opposing high-pressure ports allow the first stage to be positioned either up or down.

  • Four high-flow and one axial super high-flow low-pressure ports on a swivel turret maximise hose routing options

  • External intermediate pressure adjustment enables technicians to fine-tune performance quickly and easily

  • Available in either 232bar INT or 300bar DIN configurations

  • DIN version comes with a dual-compound wheel that features an ergo shape and soft grip on a rugged black nylon frame

DIN or A-clamp first stage?

Most of our divers prefer DIN fitting on the 1st stage regulator. A DIN regulator has a threaded post which screws into the inside of a DIN tank valve and has no additional metal or braces that run behind the valve. This, together with the position of its o-ring, creates a more secure seal on the tank.

YOKE (or A-Clamp) 1st stages have an oblong metal brace that completely encircles the tank valve when in place and is screwed down on the tank valve when the yoke screw is tightened.

Both regulators seal to the scuba tank through an o-ring where the o-ring on a Yoke valve is in the tank valve itself as opposed to DIN regulators with their own o-ring.

DIN fittings are commonly accepted as more secure, but Yoke valves are common throughout North America and recreational tourist destinations. A DIN regulator can be adapted to Yoke valves by using an A-clamp adapter for travel.
