Why Portland?

We’re located on the Isle of Portland (in Dorset) because Portland has been one of the most popular scuba diving locations in the United Kingdom even before we set up operations here back in the year 2000.

On one side, we’re minutes away from the sheltered waters of Portland Marina and Harbour, while on the other, it’s just a brief walk to reach our famous scuba diving destination Chesil Cove and start of the 16-mile-long Chesil Beach.

Portland’s location makes it ideal for scuba diving, freediving, snorkelling and other surface water sports activities.

Check out how many wrecks we have around here by clicking on Scimitar Diving's Wreck & Dive Sites chart!

Alongside dive clubs, many instructors and dive schools travel here to train and offer scuba diving certification ranging from open water diver to mixed-gas tech diving or rebreather diving levels.

Whether you’re doing a boat dive from Portland Marina or Castletown or a shore dive at Chesil Cove, Portland is well known for offering many possibilities: Reef diving to wreck diving and night diving, underwater photography or underwater videography. Anything other than cave diving is possible here.

Likely being the best-stocked diving shop in the UK, at Underwater Explorers we offer in-store scuba diving equipment advice and sales, as well as gas fills, to locals and visitors (read About Us).

But... If you’re googling “scuba diving shop near me” like some, look no further, there's DirDirect online.

Here at DirDirect, we list our cutting-edge equipment for worldwide delivery and we’ve got you covered whatever your level of diving: We’re your local dive store wherever you are in the world.

All that with over 20 years of experience especially in technical diving, from training to equipment, advice and sales.

Diving with a truly HIGH-PERFORMANCE OCTO as a Safe Second is a truly elite option. The Atomic Ti2 Octopus gives you all-Titanium components and engineering for lightweight, natural breathing and the ultimate corrosion resistance. The non-swivel Ti2 Octopus is closest to having a redundant T3 as your Safe Second.

Ti2 All-Titanium Octo

Even though your Safe Second may be rarely used, be sure it performs perfectly when you need it. Atomic The Ti2 Octopus performs identically to Atomic all-Titanium primary second stages.

Components are precision-machined from solid Titanium billet. Titanium’s light weight makes the Ti2 Octopus much less bulky as a Safe Second and much easier for travelling. The corrosion resistance of Titanium means less servicing and more readiness to perform in a crucial situation.

Octopus with Primary Features

Atomic designers engineered their primary second stages’ DNA into their family of Octo Safe Seconds for nearly identical breathing performance, reliability, and corrosion resistance.

The patented Atomic AFC Automatic Flow Control and Titanium Seat Saving Dynamic Orifice make Atomic T12 Octopus perform just like a primary. They just look different in Octo Neon Yellow with extra-long 36” hoses.

Comfort Swivel

Divers also shouldn’t have to worry about turning, twisting or looking over your shoulder. The popular Atomic Comfort Swivel removes that concern by allowing 30° range of motion without hose binding, pulling or kinking. The Ti2 Comfort Swivel is polished Stainless Steel with black PVD coating.

Automatic Flow Control

You shouldn’t have to think about breathing when you dive. The exclusive Atomic AFC helps you breathe naturally at any depth without thinking about making adjustments.

The Atomic AFC eliminates the manual adjustment normally needed to regulate Venturi effect as you dive deeper. No dials to turn or buttons to push. A Rapid Adjustment Knob is included for special situations like surf entry or octo use.

Atomic Ti2 Octopus Specifications

Just like Atomic all-Titanium primary models, the incredibly lightweight Ti2 Octo is immune to the performance-degrading effects of seawater corrosion. The Ti2 Octo also features Atomic exclusives resulting in a Safe Second that can be counted on to perform when you need it.

  • Patented Atomic AFC – Automatic Flow Control with Rapid Adjustment Knob for manual detuning in special situations.
  • Patented Atomic Titanium Seat Saving Dynamic Orifice prevents wear of the low-pressure seat that extends the service interval, and improves reliability.
  • Compact with a low-profile exhaust deflector that fits easily into pockets.
  • Bright Neon Yellow flexible front cover for high visibility.
