Wookey Exposed • A film by Gavin Newman
Using specially designed camera systems we follow the divers to the very limits of the exploration as they attempt to push on into the darkness beyond the end of Wookey Hole.
Beneath the Mendip hills of Southern England lies a cave system that has challenged explorers since the earliest times, and continues to do so today. As one of the UK’s most popular showcaves the public can venture as far as the ninth chamber, but from this point onwards much of the cave lies underwater and is the sole domain of the cave divers.
Wookey Hole witnessed the birth of cave diving back in the 1930's. Since that time developments in new diving technology have driven forward each phase of exploration. Reaching deeper than ever before the newest discoveries were only made possible by the development of a whole new concept in diving technology.
