The difference: 4TEC less lumen but more light in a smaller zone (i.e. more light in a square metre) and 7XPG more lumen but wider distribution of light and beam. Divers who want a slightly wider beam for general purpose use, lighting larger areas, would benefit from the 4TEC's brother the LFM 7XPG which has 7 smaller crees but boasts 2800 lumen at 6500 kelvin at a 12 degree angle.
Light source: 4 CREE XRE LEDs bin R2 8300K
Light beam: 1200 lumens altogether
Power supply: NiMH battery pack of 14,4 V and 3hr or optional 5hr burn time (1 hour should be left for emergency use only as draining the battery completely will result in battery damage)
Control: advanced step up / down converter
Two modes of light: 100% and 10%
Housing: Made from anodised construction aluminium
Protective cover for the canister made from Codura
Switch: Rotary magnetic switch
Charger:
Power: 18 W
BATTERY PROTECTION MODULE
Operating method (on example of 24V battery pack): When the power
supply is on, the module automatically recognizes the battery pack type
(24V / 14.4V) and loads proper parameters from settings memory. Next it
switches to „standard” operating method in which it regularly measures
battery pack voltage (30 samples every 1 sec).
a) Charging
During the charging process, when the maximum voltage is exceeded
(28.6V), the charging entry is disconnected. The charger is still able
to measure the battery pack voltage so its working stays undisturbed.
Connecting the charger again and supercharging the battery pack is
possible after the battery pack voltage is lowered to 27.1V (max
hysteresis).
b) Discharging
During the usage of the battery pack (discharging process), its
voltage gets gradually lower until the value of 21.5V. At this point the
protection module indicates getting to the complete battery pack
discharge level by flashing the light for 5 times (temporary stops in
circuit load).(Upon reaching the minimum voltage level (20.0V) the load
gets completely disconnected in order to protect the battery pack
against deep discharge.(Connecting the load again is possible only after
charging the battery pack to voltage of 21.5V (warning of
discharge).((The process of charging and discharging for 14.4V battery
pack proceeds in a similar way, the module reacts to the voltage values
shown in the table above.

Underwater ExplorersDirDirect is a world-leading online dive shop run by Underwater Explorers based in Portland, Dorset, UK. Underwater Explorers is a dive centre with a striking difference. It was born out of the concept of "Hogarthian" diving, safe and streamlined equipment configuration, using the most robust products available for recreational and technical diving -- but at the same time, keeping it simple. It is based on the concept of "less is more" in diving and acts as an equipment outlet, training facility and source of sound advice.
